If you know me, you know how much I swear by Pinterest! It’s my biggest source of traffic! If you aren’t using Pinterest yet, you NEED to hop on board.
Top 10 Pinterest Tips and Tricks
Do you know that Pinterest reads images? Yes, Pinterest uses the image of your pin to get data so as to show it when it is most relevant. Most new bloggers don’t know this so they use images, but you really need to pick an image that is related to your topic. Pinterest checks out the photo on your pin and decides what your pin is about.
So, if your pin there is food probably Pinterest will categorize that pin as food related. And, if your pin is about working at home, you don’t want your pin coming up among recipe pins, do you?
As I said earlier, Pinterest uses the image of your pin to get data so as to show it when it is most relevant. Pinterest will show your pin (if it’s a good pin) in the “more like this” section when someone enlarges any pin. If you use a free stock photo that has been used too many times and for different topics, you run the risk that your pin will be shown for the wrong topic.
You can easily hire a social media manager from Fiverr.
Having a pin showing for the wrong topic is detrimental as no one will click on your pins and consequently, Pinterest will think that your pin sucks and won’t show it any longer.
But actually, your pin was fantastic the only problem was that it wasn’t on topic. And all this happened because you used a free stock photo that has been already used a million times for different topics.
The best thing you can do is get your own images but I understand that this can be really time-consuming. My advice? Buy the majority of your photos and use free stock photos only when you can’t avoid them.

1. Make sure you are a biz account + utilize your analytics!! You can check analytics to see which pins and boards get you the most clicks.
2. Use keywords because they help with your Pinterest SEO to rank higher on Pinterest searches!
3. Join group boards!! They are key! And pin your content to group boards daily.
4. Pin content daily!!! In the beginning, you should pin 20% of your own content and 80% of others. Once you hit 200k+ + monthly Pinterest views you can change that and start sharing more of your own content.
5. Pin at least 30 – 50 times a day. Play around with your pinning to see how many times work best for you. I pin about 70-80 times a day.
6. The first 5 pins of the day are the most important that Pinterest will really look at so make sure you are pinning them to your best boards that relate the most to the pin. Example: if you have a pin about hairstyles and it’s one of the first five pins you pin, pin it to a hairstyle board! & this goes for any pins you add to Pinterest, the first five boards you pin your new pins to, should be boards that are most related to the pin to help Pinterest know what your pin is about!
7. Create vertical pins for your blog posts and promote them on Pinterest daily by repinning them to group boards etc. vertical pins perform so much better than horizontal pins! Ideally 735 x 1102 with bold colors, a clean look, and catchy titles that are easy to read and make you want to click and read more!
7. Invest in tailwind as it will help keep you active throughout the day on Pinterest, even when you are sleeping! Tailwind grew my traffic by 200% in one month!
8. Create new pin designs for your blog posts every month (2-3 different designs) and test out to see which designs perform the best!
9. Continue to repin your most clicked pins each month.
10. Clean up your boards by going through and deleting pins that didn’t perform well. If they don’t get engagement or have little repins, feel free to delete them from your board!

I think it’s important to note that a good content marketing strategy uses MULTIPLE sources to capture your audience’s attention. Each platform plays a part in creating your overall marketing strategy.
So what should you focus on?
SEO first and foremost is EXTREMELY important for long-term growth. It is a slow burner so many bloggers choose to not focus on it right away HOWEVER, going back to edit posts for search engine optimization can be tedious so it’s better to focus on it right from the start if you can.
Pinterest marketing – I know I mention this often but it’s because it ACTUALLY works if you are willing to take the time to implement Pinterest strategies. Pinterest marketing isn’t for you if you aren’t willing to put in the effort and if you aren’t willing to be patient before giving up.
Remember just like anything else, a new Pinterest account or an account with no traction takes time to grow so give it a solid 3 months of implementing consistent daily Pinterest marketing strategies if you want results. My lifestyle blog gets 100k + blog views most months thanks to Pinterest.
Pinterest marketing can also play a part in your affiliate marketing, email marketing, and marketing of your FB community if you have one. Create landing pages for your freebies and make pins that link to your landing page. You can also create pins for affiliate links (if the aff programs allow it), pins for your FB community, and digital products you sell!
If you use Pinterest ads (a tip) only use ads to promote your landing pages or products, if you are spending money on ads just for blog traffic it’s probably not worth it.
I get 100k blog views a month organically on Pinterest. It’s possible but it takes time.
Social Media Marketing.
Another important step in your content marketing strategy is social media marketing. In my opinion (I am no expert) social media is a great way to create personal connections with your audience. You are the face of your social media and if you are actively engaging with your followers and building connections this builds trust!! Trust is huge when it comes to selling products and making affiliate sales.
Many don’t like implementing Twitter but I have gotten many leads from using my Twitter and engaging with my Twitter audience.
If you are using Instagram, show up on your stories. This puts a face and voice behind your blog and creates a more personal, trusting connection with your audience.
Create a FB community for your readers and offer exclusive tips, monthly and daily challenges, and more for your group members to get them to join and engage. (Happy to help you brainstorm!)
Email marketing – I will admit I’m not the best at this however, it’s a great way to grow your subscribers in case social media goes away.
Many struggles with growing their email list and my best suggestion would be to offer a freebie!!!
Some freebies:
- a guide
- A challenge
- PRINTABLES
- Exclusive tips
- Checklists
- Discounts
Pinterest can be used to promote your freebie and you can also promote it on social media and in your FB group! (See how all of these platforms play hand in hand)
If you have a product you sell, you can offer a freebie that also mentions your product in the email!
Set up a welcome series to build that initial connection with your subscribers
You can also send out a monthly bonus or two that only your subscribers get!
There are so many ways to market your content! Utilize them and combine them to make a solid content marketing strategy that brings you an engaged, trusting audience that wants what you have to offer!!!
